Okay here's the thread for dimensions of Lego bricks. I'll start off with what I have (just off the top of my head which I got from LDraw part models) and post away if you have more to add! Maybe pics will be added later...

Just a note on conventions used - first number indicates a real measured dimension, and dimensions in brackets are taken from LDraw part files (where 2.5LDU = 1mm, divide LDU by 2.5 to get mm).

Dimensions are measured using Vernier Calipers or other fine-tolerance measurement device. Please only add dimensions if they are measured with such a device! No school rulers!

Basic Brick Dimensions

One Lego Unit = 7.88mm (8mm)
Brick height = 9.6mm (9.6mm)
Plate height = 3.18mm (3.2mm)

Stud diameter = 4.5mm (5mm)
Stud Height = 1.86mm (1.6mm)
Hollow Stud Inner Diameter = ?mm (3mm)
Pit Diameter = ?mm (not modelled)
Pit Depth = ?mm (not modelled)

Brick/Plate Wall Thickness = 1.6mm (1.5mm)
Brick Wall Depth = Varies (8.1mm)
Plate Wall Depth = 2.25mm (1.7mm)

Tube Inner Diameter = 5mm (5mm)
Tube Outer Diameter = 6.6mm (6.314mm from trigonometry)

Technic Bricks

Technic Parts

Large Bushing Length = 7.7mm (8mm)
Small Bushing Length = 4mm (4mm)
Two Small Bushes with Teeth, Meshed = 7.1mm

As always, post away if you find any errors.

Heres some more dimensions to add:

Brick height = 9.6 mm (9.6mm)
Plate height = 3.2mm (3.2mm) - actually 3.18 if you want to be picky. 3.2 is close enough

Brick Wall Depth = ?mm (8.1mm) - looks as if this # varies. 8.5 mm on the 1 x 6 I'm measuring, 8.3mm on the 2x2 inverted slope (what i have sitting around Razz )

Tube Inner Diameter = 5mm (5mm)
Tube Outer Diameter = 6.6mm (6.314mm from trigonometry) - as a double check, wall thickness is 0.8mm, which confirms the 6.6 reading.

On a side note, of what use is the diameter of the "Hollow tube" between two studs and "pit depth" of a stud?

Thanks. I'll add them.

Well I was meant to write about the hollow stud inner diameter, which is the same as minifig tool diameters such as lightsaber bars. Things can fit in them snugly, including small tubes which are 3mm diameter (twice wall thickness). As for the pits (the little holes under the studs if people don't know what I'm on about), well I just added them because I model them for realism.

As for these, they must flex a small amount to keep the fit nice and snug. I've noticed some of my tubes (really old ones) are starting to get little depressions in them from studs. That probably explains most of the differences between nominal and toleranced dimensions.

Ah cool, now i can use these to make those custom parts i was on about for my Ferrari, thanks. Wink

Got the plate height and stud sizes and that's all i need.

The Technic Beam is not square in cross section. Heres the dimensions:

Lengthwise across holes in beam: 0.308in (7.84mm)
Crossways to holes in beam: 0.293in (7.46mm)

Ratio: 1:1.05

Is there anyone who has one of the Hailfire Droid Wheels, and whether you can tell me its diameter and thickness (in mm)?

I didn't want to create a topic just for that so I thought this would be the most appropriate place to put it.

Thanks.
